Are you ready for this? This game was just recently announced in The Inventory. It's guaranteed to be more of an adventure game than King's Quest VIII was.Ī Vampyre Story. The graphics are beautiful and in 3d, and significant progress is constantly being made. King's Quest IX: Every Cloak Has A Silver Lining. Here are a few of the more promising ones: If you haven't seen independent adventure game projects, you probably haven't been looking hard enough. Some people seem to think MMORPGs are the pinnacle of gaming.

I have to admit, it's interesting how many people want to make a MMORPG, often without knowing a thing about how to program one or just how complicated it will turn out to be. :)īy the way, I look forward to playing your game in the future. Ah well, I guess I'll have to settle for buying some of the rereleased classics. I'm just surprised that as many people as you have out there deciding to make the "SUPER UBER BEST MMORPG EVER," which is arguably more difficult, I've never once seen someone suggest an adventure game project. I'm not sure commercial game developers really know what they're doing most of the time anyway. To answer your question, there are many adventure games being made today, but yes, most of them are independent and typically freeware. There's also which has a special section for Indie developed adventure games. The Crow's Nest has its own awards and keeps some information on adventure games, mostly about the indie scene. If you're looking for up-to-date information on the adventure game scene, Just Adventure+ is probably the largest, and they have a regular ezine called The Inventory you can download. The King's Quest 2 remake, which is actually an original game since they revamped the entire story, is better than most commercial adventure games, in my opinion. Some of the AGS games are arguably better than others, and AGDI's remakes of King's Quest 1 and 2 (they're currently working on Quest for Glory 2) are probably some of the better ones made with AGS. There's also the AGS Awards, an annual award where AGS game developers and players vote on AGS games. Plus, it's freeware, and it has quite a thriving and helpful community. It has a C-style scripting engine with a graphical interface and a large range of flexibility. :)Īctually, quite a large number of hobbyist adventure game developers use Adventure Game Studio (previously mentioned) to create adventure games. So, is there anyone out there working on an adventure game, of the sort made so famous by LucasArts? Just curious. Up to this point all I've played in the indy realm is interactive fiction, which is basically text adventure (though not necessarily game).

:) Thinking over the lack of adventure games these days, it occurred to me that the next really good adventure games might have to come from hobbyists/indy developers.

I'm not sure if this is the correct forum for such a question, but no doubt someone will let me know if it isn't.
